Collaboration with Orthopaedic Technicians

BarluParts 3D is a partner (supplier) for orthopaedic technicians and medical supply stores.

Formal training or certification is not required. As a result, there are no costs associated with collaborating with us. An informal personal or telephone briefing from us is sufficient.

Here’s how a prosthetic fitting with the USC socket works:

  1. Initial Fitting:

    • Conduct the fitting with your prosthetic user using a test socket as usual.
    • We will manufacture the Ultra Soft Comfort (USC) socket as a Full skincontakt inner socket for you.
  2. Submission of Model:

    • Along with your order, provide us with a plaster model or a 3D scan.
    • Mark the positions for the laminating discs and the valve on the plaster model or scan. Indicate the type of valve and its placement.
    • Optionally, you can mark areas that need extra softness.
  3. Scanning and Production:

    • If you don’t provide a 3D scan, we will scan or digitize the plaster model.
    • The production of the USC socket in our central manufacturing facility takes up to 10 working days.
  4. Manufacturing Considerations:

    • Please note that the USC socket should not be clamped in your thermoforming device when manufacturing the carbon outer socket. Instead, create a positive plaster model based on the provided plaster cast (a dummy can also be cast in if needed).
    • Post-production modifications to the fit are limited. You can narrow the socket if necessary by adding padding material between the carbon outer socket and the USC inner socket. However, post-processing such as thermoplastic reshaping or sanding the socket edge is not possible. Ensure the socket edge contour is detailed and marked on the plaster model.
  5. User Satisfaction:

    • Enthusiastic users are guaranteed!

Coverage by Health Insurance

Additional costs for a USC socket compared to a conventional socket are generally covered without major issues in arm prosthetics based on past experience. However, in leg prosthetics, most insurers require a separate justification for the additional costs compared to traditional socket solutions (thermoplastic or HTV silicone). The outstanding benefits of the USC socket system speak for themselves. You can certainly provide a written justification detailing which of the 6 exceptional features of a USC socket offer specific advantages for your case.
